Updating the Exchange Service Account Authentication Method

As of October 1, 2022, Microsoft will no longer support the basic authentication method for Exchange Online (Office 365). Clients who are using basic authentication through a Service Account may experience disruptions with Lightning Sync. You can find more information about the deprecation from Microsoft here: Basic Authentication Deprecation in Exchange Online- September 2022 Update.

This will only impact clients who use Exchange online and will not impact those using Microsoft Exchange 2019 or 2016. We recommend speaking with your IT team if you are unsure which version you are using.

There are two different authentication methods that may be used with Lightning Sync; Service Account and OAuth 2.0. For those who are on Exchange Online and are still using a Service Account to authenticate, we recommend changing your authentication method to OAuth 2.0 prior to October 1st to prevent any interruptions. The following Salesforce article provides additional information on making this change: Connect Salesforce and Microsoft ® Exchange Using OAuth 2.0. If you need assistance with changing your authentication method, please submit a ticket to the Support Team at the Salentica Help Center.

This screenshot shows what your Lightning Sync looks like if you are using a Service Account. If you are using Exchange Online through Office 365 and your Lightning Sync is using this connection method then you will need to switch to OAuth 2.0.

Salesforce has also made Einstein Activity Capture available to all Salesforce environments, which includes Elements as well. If you are currently using Lightning Sync, we recommend reviewing the following information on Einstein Activity Capture to determine if you would like to switch to Einstein Activity Capture: Salesforce's Einstein Activity Capture (EAC). For clients who implemented after October 2020, you may already have Einstein Activity Capture enabled and will not need to take any action. If you would like to enable Einstein Activity Capture or have any additional questions about this feature, please submit a ticket to the Support Team at the Salentica Help Center.
